The MyEvents247 For iPhone App Provides A New Way To Find Local Events With Deep Facebook Integration

We are all involved in a modern world that is connected through social media and made smaller by gadgets like the iPhone and iPad which allow us all to remain in constant contact with each other. Apple has provided us with the technology to stay connected, but the development community also has a responsibility to provide us with apps that want us to connect to one another and share our interactions.

For anyone who is looking to be more socially interactive, the first thing that comes to mind is the social media behemoth, Facebook. The Palo Alto based social network is the reigning king of the social media world, boasting over 900 million members and a variety of connectivity portals to allow people to stay in touch with their connections no matter where they are. Because the Facebook service is so vast, it is easy to miss a thing or two, which is where the MyEvents247 iOS app comes in.

The app, designed for the iPhone and iPod touch, is intended to delve into the world of Facebook events and allows users to discover local events in a way that generally isn’t possible through the standard web interface. As you might expect, the app requires the user to give it full permission to access their Facebook account in order to scrape the relevant information from that account and the accounts of friends and family members. Events can then be discovered with a single tap of a button. Options to either attend the event or share it with your connected world becomes a newly available option when viewed.
The main user-interface of the app conforms to Leonardo Da Vinci’s belief that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Four tiles adorn the main view which gives access to events that are coming soon, events that are happening in the local area (based on GPS position of the device), information pertaining to the user’s Facebook friends list and the option to invite other members to use the app through sharing on additional social media networks. Creating and sharing your own event is extremely simple too, and requires nothing more than snapping an image and adding a little bit of informational text related to it.
For some people, including myself, Facebook can be extremely overwhelming. The social network offers some fantastic features to users, but in a lot of cases, those features are hidden away behind a wall of pokes and random infuriating status updates, meaning that a large subset of members never actually get to experience them to the fullest potential. MyEvents247 and similar apps exist to expose that functionality, and in this instance, do it extremely well.
